The Workplace Skills Series Teacher's Editions

Both textbooks in The Workplace Skills Series have a corresponding teacher's edition. Teacher's editions are not available separately; an accompanying purchase of student books is required.

Ever find yourself using a new curriculum and wonder, "Did the author ever try teaching this stuff?" You will not do that if you use The Workplace Skills Series, because authors Dan Farley and Cindy Donaldson use the material regularly in both the industry training room and the traditional classroom, and did so for years before ever writing the texts.  The teacher's editions are where Dan and Cindy share their experiences with you, and help you avoid lengthy curriculum design.

Each teacher's edition includes the following:

• Lesson plans for each chapter
• All pages of the student text
• Answers to all in-class and homework exercises
• Tips and traps, do's and don'ts (from the authors' personal experiences)

Each lesson plan includes the following four sections:

1. Introductory Activity

One of the unique aspects of The Workplace Skills Series is the innovative way analogies and metaphors are used to introduce concepts and promote retention. This section describes these introductory activities for each chapter. In addition to being fun and engaging for all students, these techniques help overcome limited literacy and English as a second language issues.

2. Suggested Materials

Many of the introductory activities utilize inexpensive everyday items as props to teach class concepts. These props are used as metaphors and/or visual aids to introduce topics in creative ways. This section reminds you of what materials or props you will need. A quick look at this section the night before class can keep you from forgetting an all-important item at home.

3. Daily In-Class Activities

This section contains many of the tips and traps that Dan Farley and Cindy Donaldson have learned over the years teaching The Workplace Skills Series. Included are suggestions for how to structure in-class activities, ways to debrief exercises, typical tough questions (and the answers to them!), and strategies for dealing issues that may arise.

4. Homework Reminder

This section reminds you what homework to collect if you assigned it from the previous class, and tells you what homework you should assign for the current session.
